Along the Gulf Coast somewhere between Houston and Mexico you will find Corpus Christi, most well known as the place that Selena began her rise to fame. It is in this same city that you will find Dusty Oliveira better known as DJ Dus. With the sounds of rap, hip hop, and cumbia drifting around the coastal breeze, it only makes sense that DJ Dus would take these sounds and stir them together.
DJ DUS has taken the principals of 1970’s era Jamaican soundsystems, a producer’s approach to developing new material and a DJ’s skill behind the turntables to develop a unique and inspired mix of cumbia, hip hop and reggae tracks that translates to a new and fresh sound- best described as NU Cumbia. DJ Dus, has been at the forefront of the new cumbia scene since the late 90's both behind the decks and the mixing console for some of the most successful and inspired recording artists, including: Los Kumbia Kings, DJ Kane, La Conquista, Paula DeAnda, Baby Bash and Frankie J- just to name a few. When he is not busy recording in the studio, Oliveira is utilizing his new mashup project, Master Blaster, to serve as a bridge between DJ culture, live music performances and the cumbia underground.
DUS serves as a direct connect to the cumbia underground and has been passing on pertinent information regarding developments in the scene, as well as some choice mashups, on his popular blog -djdus .com. Visit his blog and websites to gain a meaningful insight into this unique and talented producer, arranger, DJ and visionary. DJ DUS’s Master Blaster is producing fresh sounds and beats for a new generation of cross pollinated youth in the ever evolving Latin music scene.
